As we get older, our bodies stop producing as much collagen. This can lead to a loss of volume, moisture, and firmness in the skin. Our medical spa offers microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, at our Natick practice for people from Wellesley, Weston, and other MA cities who want to refresh the skin by increasing collagen production. The microneedling device uses tiny microneedles that are passed over the skin’s surface, creating tiny, controlled injuries in the dermis. This stimulates the body’s natural healing and regenerative processes, turning the clock back on your skin.

How Does Microneedling Work?

During the microneedling procedure, our board-certified physician assistant, Brooke Simas, passes the device over your skin, causing tiny wounds. These controlled injuries kickstart the body’s natural healing processes. This produces new collagen to help heal the skin, forming healthy new tissue. As a result, your old skin concerns are reduced, and refreshed, younger-looking skin becomes visible.

What Does Microneedling Treat?

Microneedling is effective for treating many different skin concerns on the face and body, including:

Microneedling often works well in combination with medical-grade skincare products and other skin rejuvenation treatments, such as chemical peels. Our team will customize your treatment to address your individual concerns and desires.

What To Expect During Your Microneedling Treatment

Brooke will begin your treatment by applying a topical anesthetic to keep you comfortable throughout your session. Once the area is numb, she will pass the device over your skin, creating many microscopic punctures in the surface. This typically only takes about 30 minutes. Brooke will then give you a full list of aftercare instructions to follow over the next 2 or 3 days.

What Is Microneedling Recovery Like?

After your microneedling treatment, your face will be red and flushed in appearance. It will also be extra sensitive. It is important to avoid direct sun exposure and strenuous activity during the first few days following treatment. Within 3 days, your skin should look and feel normal.

When Will I See My Microneedling Results?

Results develop gradually over several weeks as collagen production takes place. Most people see noticeable results after about 4 to 6 weeks, at which point you may reassess your skin to determine whether you would benefit from additional treatments. While nothing can stop the aging process altogether, microneedling is known to create long-lasting rejuvenation results.

Microneedling FAQs

How much does microneedling cost in Natick or Needham, MA?

Microneedling is typically priced per session, and the total cost depends on the size of the treatment area, the number of recommended sessions, and whether enhancements such as growth factors are included. Because collagen remodeling takes time, most patients require a series of treatments. During a consultation in Natick, you’ll receive a customized plan outlining both the number of sessions and the overall investment needed to reach your goals.

Does microneedling hurt, even with numbing cream?

Most patients find microneedling very manageable. A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment to reduce discomfort, so the sensation is usually described as light pressure, vibration, or a mild prickling feeling rather than pain. Some areas of the face may feel slightly more sensitive, but the treatment is generally well tolerated by patients in Natick and Needham.

How many microneedling sessions do I need for noticeable results?

While some patients notice a subtle improvement after a single session, most benefit from a series of 3 to 6 treatments spaced several weeks apart. The number of sessions depends on your skin concerns. For example, acne scars, stretch marks, and deeper wrinkles typically require more treatments than mild texture or tone issues. Your provider will tailor a treatment plan based on your skin’s condition and desired outcome.

Can microneedling help reduce acne scars and large pores?

Yes, microneedling is commonly used to improve the appearance of acne scars and enlarged pores. By stimulating collagen production beneath the surface, the skin becomes smoother and more refined over time. Many patients in Natick and Needham choose microneedling specifically for these concerns when topical products alone have not provided enough improvement.

What does your skin look like immediately after microneedling?

Right after treatment, your skin will typically appear red, similar to a mild sunburn, and may feel warm or tight. Some patients also notice slight swelling or pinpoint sensitivity. These effects are temporary and usually subside within a couple of days. Many patients in the Natick area feel comfortable returning to normal activities within 24 hours, depending on the intensity of the treatment.

How long does it take to see full microneedling results?

Microneedling results develop gradually as new collagen forms beneath the skin. While some initial glow may be visible within a few days, more noticeable improvements typically appear after 4 to 6 weeks. Results continue to build with each session, making this a great option for patients who prefer natural-looking, progressive skin rejuvenation.

Who is not a good candidate for microneedling?

Microneedling may not be recommended for patients with active skin infections, open wounds, certain inflammatory skin conditions, or a history of poor wound healing. Those who are pregnant or using certain medications may also need to postpone treatment. A consultation helps determine whether microneedling is appropriate and safe for your specific situation.

Can microneedling be combined with other treatments for better results?

Yes, microneedling is often combined with treatments such as chemical peels, laser procedures, or medical-grade skincare products to enhance overall results. Combining treatments allows providers to address multiple concerns—such as texture, tone, and early signs of aging—more effectively. Patients in Natick and Needham often benefit from a customized, layered approach to skin rejuvenation.
