Welcome to Essential Dermatology
The mission of Essential Dermatology is to provide the highest level of evidence-based, patient-centred, empathetic, and cost-effective dermatological care.
Dr. Michael Krathen, Brooke Simas, PA-C, and our team are committed to providing patients in and around Natick, Massachusetts, with dermatology services to improve the health, wellness, and appearance of the skin and body. Our dedicated professionals work closely with patients seeking cosmetic and medical dermatology solutions, enabling us to offer a range of treatment options for them to consider.
- IPL Photofacials – Using intense pulse light therapy to improve the skin’s appearance is a common solution for patients looking to address a wide selection of issues, including the early signs of aging, poor skin texture and tone, and unwanted redness.
- CO2 Resurfacing – Rejuvenating the skin often starts with resurfacing. Our CO2 resurfacing laser treatment penetrates deep into the facial skin with specialized energy to remodel collagen and elastin to achieve a more youthful appearance and overall health.
- Chemical peels – Exfoliating the dead skin cells located on the skin’s surface can enhance the skin. Deeper peels into the papillary and superficial reticular dermis can remove unwanted wrinkles, brown spots and rejuvenate the skin. Our team uses a combination of special ingredients to suit the patient’s unique needs and ensure they see their desired results sooner than other skin care services.
- Phototherapy for psoriasis – Patients with psoriasis often find phototherapy helpful in reducing scaling skin, allowing for a safe and effective way to improve skin health.
- Sculptra injections – Our Sculptra treatments can help restore facial volume lost due to natural aging. Sculptra injections build up volume where it is needed to allow patients to reverse aging without invasive plastic surgical procedures.
- Botox injections – Addressing facial fine lines, wrinkles, and folds can be achieved with Botox injections, treating the dynamic wrinkles that appear with time. Botox is safe and has been used for many years in different applications within the medical field.

FAQs
What skin concerns can treatments like IPL, CO2 resurfacing, or chemical peels improve?
These advanced dermatology treatments are designed to address a wide range of concerns, including sun damage, fine lines, uneven tone, redness, acne scars, and rough texture. At Essential Dermatology in Natick and Needham, MA, treatment plans are customized based on your skin type and goals, so whether you’re dealing with early aging or more advanced damage, there are options available to help restore a smoother, more even complexion.
How do I know which cosmetic dermatology treatment is right for my skin?
Choosing the right treatment depends on your specific concerns, skin condition, and desired results. During a consultation, providers evaluate factors like pigmentation, texture, and elasticity before recommending options such as IPL, CO2 laser resurfacing, or chemical peels. Patients in the Natick and Needham area benefit from a personalized approach that ensures treatments are both safe and effective for their skin type.
Is laser skin resurfacing or IPL painful, and what should I expect during treatment?
Most patients describe these treatments as tolerable, with sensations ranging from mild warmth to a snapping feeling on the skin. Comfort measures are often used to minimize discomfort. After treatment, you may experience redness or sensitivity similar to a mild sunburn. At Essential Dermatology, patient comfort is a priority, and your provider will guide you through what to expect before, during, and after your session.
How long does it take to see results from treatments like Sculptra or chemical peels?
Results vary depending on the treatment. Chemical peels can reveal brighter, smoother skin within days to weeks, while Sculptra works gradually by stimulating collagen production over several months. Patients in Natick and Needham often appreciate that these treatments provide natural-looking improvements that develop over time rather than appearing overly dramatic or artificial.
Are dermatology treatments like Botox and Sculptra safe?
Yes, when administered by experienced professionals, treatments like Botox and Sculptra are considered safe and widely used in both medical and cosmetic dermatology. At Essential Dermatology, all treatments are performed by trained providers who follow evidence-based protocols to ensure safety and effectiveness. A consultation helps determine if you’re a good candidate based on your health history and goals.
How much do cosmetic dermatology treatments typically cost in Natick or Needham, MA?
The cost of treatment can vary depending on the procedure, the number of sessions needed, and your individual goals. For example, laser treatments and injectables may be priced differently based on treatment area and complexity. During your visit to Essential Dermatology, you’ll receive a clear, personalized estimate so you can make informed decisions without surprises.
What is recovery like after treatments such as CO2 resurfacing or chemical peels?
Recovery time depends on the depth and intensity of the treatment. Lighter procedures may involve minimal downtime, while deeper resurfacing treatments can require several days to a week of healing. Common side effects include redness, peeling, and temporary sensitivity. Patients in the Natick and Needham areas are given detailed aftercare instructions to support proper healing and help achieve the best possible results.
