One of the hardest areas to tone up and get rid of excess fat tissue is on the chin. Submental fullness is the gathering of excess fat under the chin; this is what creates the “double chin” appearance. Submental fullness can be due to weight gain, aging, or genetics, and it often leaves people feeling self-conscious and embarrassed by their appearance. Double chins are almost impossible to get rid of. At Essential Dermatology, Dr. Krathen offers a nonsurgical medical spa treatment to get rid of the excess fat under the chin. Kybella is an FDA-approved injectable form of deoxycholic acid which was specifically formulated to get rid of fat under the chin.

How Does Kybella Work?

Kybella is made up of a synthetic form of deoxycholic acid. This is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that helps in breaking down and absorbing dietary fat. During the treatment, Kybella will be injected into the chin. The Kybella injectable destroys fat cells. Once fat cells are destroyed, they can no longer accumulate fat. This then results in the noticeable reduction of fat under the chin. During a consultation with Dr. Krathen, he will work with you to build a custom treatment plan tailored to your desires and concerns. Patients can receive up to six Kybella treatments spaced one month apart. Patients usually notice visible results within two-to-four treatments.

Kybella Maintenance

Kybella is a great long-lasting treatment option for those who want to get rid of fat underneath the chin. Since Kybella causes the destruction of fat cells, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat. Which means that the results should be long-lasting and further treatment is not needed. Kybella can be used in combination with other plastic surgery procedures such as a facelift or neck lift to enhance results.
