As we age, our body stops producing as much collagen. This substance helps our skin stay taught. It is estimated that by the age of 50 most people have up to 30% collagen loss. This can cause wrinkles and folds in the skin. To help combat this, many people are turning to Sculptra Aesthetic. This is an injectable treatment that helps to gradually replace lost collagen. The results of Sculptra can last for up to two years. Sculptra uses poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) as a collagen stimulator. This injectable treatment is available here at Essential Dermatology.
How Does Sculptra Work?
Sculptra Aesthetic is an injectable made up of a biocompatible, biodegradable, synthetic form of poly-L-lactic acid. When injected, this is gradually and naturally absorbed by the body which helps to rebuild lost collagen. This will be injected into the deep dermis of the skin where the strands of collagen are that support your skin’s structure. Depending on the desired results, the number of injections and Sculptra sessions will vary. On average, most patients receive three injection sessions spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
