If you have questions about cosmetic injectables like Sculptra, you are not alone. This FDA-approved aesthetic treatment continues to gain popularity as patients become aware of it. Drs. Michael Krathen and Sameer Gupta of Essential Derm serve patients in the areas of Natick, Massachusetts, and Needham, New Hampshire, and take time to talk to new and established patients about the many services they can receive and discuss candidacy for Sculptra treatments.
Our team at Essential Derm describes Sculptra as one of many cosmetic injectable treatments available at our facility. Sculptra is specifically designed to restore facial volume and reduce the overall appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It is made of poly-L-lactic acid, a safe and biocompatible material that stimulates collagen production in the skin.
When injected into the facial skin, Sculptra stimulates the natural collagen production process. Collagen keeps our natural skin youthful and plump, but our body produces less of it as we age. By injecting Sculptra into targeted areas of the face, our providers can essentially stimulate new collagen growth, resulting in a gradual improvement in facial volume and a reduction in wrinkles over time.

Sculptra is commonly used to address certain areas of the face, including nasolabial lines, lost volume in one’s cheeks, and deep wrinkles around the mouth. It can also improve the appearance of sunken temples, vertical lip lines, and chin wrinkles.
Sculptra, like many of the other injectables used in our office, has been approved by the FDA (or US Food and Drug Administration) for cosmetic use in adults over 18 years old. However, you will want to always consult with one of our qualified and experienced providers before undergoing any cosmetic procedure. While Sculptra is generally considered safe, some potential side effects might occur, including mild redness, swelling, bruising, or tenderness at the injection site. These typically subside without further attention within a few days after treatment.
A common question about Sculptra is its longevity. Sculptra typically lasts an average of two years, making it a longer-lasting option than other dermal fillers. However, everyone’s body is different, and results may vary. Sculptra does not provide permanent results, and touch-up treatments might be necessary to maintain desired results.
Aside from its long-lasting effects, there are several other benefits to choosing Sculptra for your cosmetic needs. One major benefit is its ability to stimulate natural collagen production in the skin. This improves skin texture and firmness over time, giving you a more youthful appearance. Additionally, Sculptra can be used on multiple areas of the face, addressing various issues with a singular injectable service.
If you live in Natick, Massachusetts, or Needham, New Hampshire, we invite you to connect with Drs.
