What is Kybella?

What can I expect during treatment?
Treatment starts with a consultation with our dermatologist. He’ll examine your chin and discuss your goals to determine your suitability for Kybella. Treatment isn’t suitable if you have excessive skin laxity or an active infection in the chin. We also don’t recommend Kybella injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
The treatment is simple and lasts a few minutes. The injections are also painless because we numb the area with topical anesthetics. Additionally, treatment requires no downtime. Most patients return to their regular activities after treatment. However, it’s normal to experience swelling, tenderness, and mild bruising at the injection sites. However, these side effects improve within a few weeks.
Kybella works gradually. Over the next several weeks, your body naturally removes the damaged fat cells. You’ll start to see a slimmer, more contoured chin as the fat dissolves. Most patients require 2–4 sessions, spaced approximately one month apart. Some individuals may require up to six sessions, depending on the degree of fullness they wish to correct.
Are the results permanent?
The fat cells in your body are the same ones you were born with. Unlike other cells in the body, fat cells don’t replicate. Instead, they expand, which results in a fuller body. When you diet, fat cells shrink, but they don’t disappear. However, Kybella destroys the fat cells in the treated area. Once those cells are gone, they cannot return.
So, yes! Kybella results are permanent. This means your slimmer chin lasts many years, as long as you maintain a stable weight.
